It is alleged that as the taxi driver got out of the Ferrari, a white vehicle carrying four men, armed with assault rifles, approached and opened fire.
A security guard, who was patrolling the area, retaliated by shooting at the gunmen.
The injured taxi driver was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police spokesman Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed the incident.
“Gauteng Police are searching for suspects after a taxi owner was shot and injured outside the Centurion Golf Estate on Wednesday evening. Armed suspects traveling in a white vehicle reportedly drove into the parking lot of the estate and started to shoot directly at the 56-year-old former taxi owner,” Kweza said.
The police recovered several cartridges on the spot. Kweza said they were investigating an attempted murder case.
Santaco has yet to comment on the matter.
