Face-to-face:
After meeting twice in the preseason, the Devils and Islanders face off for the first time in the regular season. The Devils and Islanders split the two games, with both teams winning at home.
Devils Team Scope:
The Devils are coming off their first win of the season, a 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night. The evening was full of firsts of the season for several players, including the first goals of Ondrej Palat, Nico Hischierand Dawson Mercer.
Jesper Bratt continues to rack up points with a team-leading five in the first three games. Bratt’s five points are assists as he remains in search of his first goal of the year. Bratt was reunited on a line with Hischier late in Tuesday’s game, where he practiced on Wednesday. Hischier was flanked by Palat and Bratt.
Islanders Team Scope:
The Islanders are coming off a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. Oliver Wahlstrom scored twice against the Sharks, tied for the team lead in points (4) with Anders Lee and Brock Nelson.
Wahlstrom leads the club in goals (3). Semyon Varlamov took the win in goal in his first appearance of the season, making 27 saves on 29 shots.
