Ex-security guard fined RM1,500 for causing mischief in Batu Kawa

KUCHING (August 17): The Magistrate’s Court yesterday fined a man RM1,500 in default of two months in jail after he pleaded guilty to damaging properties at a townhouse complex in Batu Kawa here.

Kelana Lucas, 39, from Lundu, pleaded before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali on a charge brought under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

He could be imprisoned for up to five years or a fine of two if convicted.

According to the indictment, he committed mischief by damaging a security cone, a metal barrier and a sign belonging to the MJC Batu Kawa compound at 11:03 a.m. on August 11.

A security guard at the resort, who is also the complainant, said he was approached by the accused, who is a former security guard at the resort.

The accused, while intoxicated while riding a motorbike, created a scene and struck a safety cone, metal barrier and sign, causing damage amounting to RM90.

A police report was then filed which led to his arrest around 11:40 a.m.

It was revealed that the defendant behaved in such a way that he was unhappy to have been fired because he was always so drunk at work that he was unable to do his job.
