Falkland Islands government extends policy for approved visitors

Monday, September 27, 2021 – 01:05 UTC

MPP Roger Spink said the addition of these new categories will allow eligible people to go ahead and plan their visit to the islands during our 40th anniversary.

On Wednesday 22 September, the ExCo agreed to revise its policy regarding the categories of visitors allowed to enter the Falkland Islands. This decision was made as part of the government’s regular review of the current pandemic management plans.

The revised policy will continue to support a controlled approach to change, based on careful risk assessment, the successful roll-out of the island-wide vaccination program, as well as the need to protect both the community and the capacity. operational of the KEMH.

The revised policy now states that in addition to the existing visitor categories, people who fall into the following new categories can also apply for travel to the Falkland Islands:

• Guests of public diplomacy sponsored by the Government of the Falkland Islands or the Office of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development
• South Atlantic Medal Association (SAMA) veterans and members of their immediate family
• Media and film crews with press accreditation granted by the government of the Falkland Islands
• Scientists and researchers supported by the government of the Falkland Islands

These visitors will still be subject to the same quarantine requirements that apply to all other visitors.

These changes will take effect on September 22, 2021, and visitor permits will continue to be reviewed by customs and immigration to ensure the policy is enforced in a rigorous and consistent manner.

Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly MP Roger Spink said: “Since the start of the pandemic, our visitor policy has been revised no less than ten times to ensure that it continues to operate as it should. The addition of these new categories will allow eligible people to go ahead and plan their visit to the Islands during our 40th anniversary. The move also continues our thoughtful approach to carefully loosen our restrictions over time, based on the latest public health guidelines, data and information. “
