Gunmen attack Kaduna airport, kill security guard

Gunmen on Saturday attacked Kaduna International Airport and killed a security guard.

The attack comes hours after gunmen allegedly killed several residents of nine communities in Giwa LGA on Friday.

The incident at the airport reportedly caused panic as security guards engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

Confirming the development in a phone interview with TheCable, airport manager Amina Salami denied reports that travelers had been held hostage.

According to her, the gunmen fired on the track from the fence.

“The Azman flight had long since taken off by the time the bandits started shooting. In fact, the Azman flight may have forgotten that they came to Kaduna at the time,” she said.

“It was not clear if they wanted to enter the airport, but they shot a security guard on runway 05. Unfortunately, on their way to hospital he died.

“I don’t know if they wanted to come to the airport. Unfortunately, they fired on the track and the bullet hit the security guard in the head.

“But the two flights we had had taken off. There are soldiers in the airport and they gave it to the terrorists.

“They seized some of their motorcycles. The soldiers managed to chase them away.
