A team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited Asansol prison on Friday to interview Saigal Hussain arrested in a cattle smuggling case. Hussain is the personal security officer of Birbhum Congressional District of Trinamool (TMC) Chairman Anubrata Mondal, who was taken into custody for 14 days by the CBI Special Court after being arrested on August 11 at his Bolpur residence in Birbhum.
Mondal is a close associate of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Recently, on September 16, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided and arrested Mondal’s daughter, Sukanya Mondal.
On September 21, 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a former commander of the Border Security Force (BSF), in connection with a case of illegal cattle smuggling across the Indo-Bangladesh border. Anubrata Mondal’s name came under the CBI scanner during the investigation into the case, the agency said. JHM Group’s main office in Bentinck Street in West Bengal, which belonged to Enamul Haque’s nephews, namely Humayun Kabir, Jahangir Alam and Mehedi Hasan, was also raided in connection with the cattle smuggling case, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) notified.
Enamul Haque was arrested by the ED on February 18 and is currently in police custody. The total attachment in this case reached Rs 11.67 crore. Proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 418 crore so far have been identified by the ED. (ANI)
