Inter Miami CF will play its second game of the Breeze Airways Carolina Challenge Cup on Tuesday, February 15 at 8 p.m. ET, taking on hosts USL Championship team Charleston Battery. The game at Patriots Point in Charleston, South Carolina will be streamed live on the Inter Miami app for local South Florida fans within 100 miles of Miami.
Charleston comes into the match fresh off a victory in their first outing of the tournament, beating expansion side MLS Charlotte FC 1-0 on Saturday night. The game-winning goal was scored by 25-year-old American striker Aidan Apodaca, who signed for the team in January.
Charleston is led by newly appointed head coach Conor Casey, a former standout MLS player and forward for the United States Men’s National Team. In 2021, the team finished sixth in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division of the USL Championship, amassing 37 points in 32 games. The team returns with key contributors from 2021, including their second top scorer last season, 21-year-old striker Nicque Daley.
Inter Miami, meanwhile, will enter the match after a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew in the tournament opener. The team took the lead with a goal from Ariel Lassiter assisted by Gonzalo Higuaín, but a late Columbus equalizer allowed the teams to split the points.
Earlier this pre-season, Inter Miami faced three MLS opponents, taking on the Crew, DC United and CF Montreal, as well as a Peruvian opponent, beating Club Universitario de Deportes 4-0 in the first the team’s international friendly match at the DRV PNK Stadium.
