Milton Security and Cyber Defense Technologies Team Up for VETCON V at DEFCON 30

For the 5th consecutive year, Milton Security and Cyber Defense Technologies are teaming up to host VETCON at DEFCON 30.

BREA, Calif. and DULES, Go., July 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — In words quite similar to Kenny Connections“Highway To The…..Painful Zone”, VETCON co-founders Milton Security (the world leader in Dynamic Threat Hunting) and Cyber Defense Technologies (CDT) (specialists in security solutions for critical systems) have jointly announced an in-person VETCON V at DEFCON 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Co-founded in 2018 by Jim McMurry and William Kimble, the founders of Milton Security and Cyber Defense Technologies, respectively, VETCON has become an official event of the DEFCON Hacker Conference designed to support veterans in the field of information security (InfoSec). Unofficially, VETCON has become one of DEFCON’s “Can’t Miss” events, providing veterans with an entertaining space to network, connect and, quite literally, relive the glamorous – and sometimes unglamorous – days of serving America.

“Last year’s event ‘RECALLED’ was a huge success considering we were just allowed back in person for the events,” said James McMurry, CEO of Milton. “This year, we expect even greater participation and stronger and more friendly competition between the different branches. This year’s theme is inspired by quite a few 80s references that have reappeared at the top of their respective charts. and if I have any advice for attendees, you might want to review these references.”

This year’s VETCON theme is “NEED FOR SPEED: Highway to the Painful Zone”. Through various military competitions and menial skill feats, veterans compete against different services to earn official VETCON loot, the ultimate badge of honor, and collectibles for veteran DEFCON participants. A service will reign supreme at the end of the night and postpone the bragging rights until next year’s event. In addition to the friendly competition, there will also be a “Recruiting Office”, a CV review service for veterans.

William KimbleCEO of Cyber Defense Technologies added, “VETCON night at DEFCON is more than fun and games – our mission brings veterans of the InfoSec community together through networking, teamwork and healthy competition. Looking forward to the inter-service rivalry, as a Marine veteran, I’m sure the Marines will win it all.”

The event is open to all DEFCON attendees with a focus on military veterans. VETCON V will take place from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday August 13. VETCON planners expect about 2,500 people to attend. For those unable to attend in person, the VETCON discord channel is a virtual participation option. Further details will be provided as the date approaches.
