Newlyweds Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan tied the knot in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
However, soon after their dream wedding, they found themselves mired in controversy.
The couple visited the revered Tirupati Temple on Friday to take part in the Kalyanotsavam of Lord Venkateswara.
However, Nayanthara has drawn the wrath of temple authorities by allegedly wearing his shoes inside, which directly flouts temple rules.
Why is this story important?
- Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are one of the most popular couples in Kollywood and regularly make the headlines.
- Before getting married in an intimate ceremony on Thursday, the couple had a rock-solid relationship that spanned six years.
- Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth were among the guests.
- Notably, the Tirupati Temple in Tirumala is a popular pilgrimage destination and several celebrities are regularly spotted at the devotional site.
Multiple photos of the couple have surfaced online showing Nayanthara glowing in yellow sari while Shivan donned a traditional world.
Narasimha Kishore, Vigilance Security Officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Council, said, “Nayanthara was seen wandering around with shoes in the streets of Mada. Our security responded immediately.
Kishore also blamed the star couple for conducting a photoshoot inside the premises, which broke another rule.
Kishore decided to send a legal notice to the couple soon.
“We are serving notices to Nayanthara. We also spoke to her and she wanted to release a video to the press apologizing to Lord Balaji, TTD and the pilgrims.”
Despite this, the temple authorities will still pursue legal action.
Meanwhile, Shivan apologized on behalf of the two.
“We didn’t notice we were wearing shoes”
The 36-year-old director said in his apology statement, “We quickly wrapped up the photoshoot and walked out of there as the fans were surrounding us.”
“In the commotion that followed, we didn’t notice that we were walking in shoes in the area where shoes were prohibited.”
Shivan apologized for the “inconvenience caused” and said the couple were ardent devotees.
A couple hosted a lunch for thousands across Tamil Nadu
Although the legal proceedings may have cast a dark shadow, the couple are praised for involving the public in their wedding celebrations.
The duo hosted a lunch for thousands of needy people in orphanages and nursing homes in Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai and Salem.
On Saturday, the lovebirds also attended a press conference and thanked the media for their blessings.
