Security guard shot and killed in DeSoto BH salon, police investigating

DeSoto Police are investigating the shooting death of a security guard that took place in a Hampton Road saloon around 10:00 p.m. Friday.

Officers responded to a call to the Brickhouse (BH) lounge on the 2000 block of North Hampton Road and upon arrival discovered that the facility’s security guard, Derek Phillips, 47, of Arlington, TX, had been shot several times. DeSoto PD and paramedics provided emergency first aid at the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Company customers have described Phillips as a good guy who never harassed anyone. Some called him a “gentle giant” who loved his job. Another wrote, ‘all about safety and making sure customers were taken care of’.

Security tapes and witnesses confirmed that a salon customer, Tousssel Kuhn, 48, of Savannah, TX, had an argument with Phillips over salon rules when Kuhn shot Phillips. The attacker was then injured by a passerby and fled the scene in a vehicle before crashing in Glenn Heights. Glenn Heights police were dispatched to the scene and determined that Kuhn was wanted by DeSoto police in connection with the shooting in the living room. Kuhn was in a local hospital for treatment and is now in custody for the murder of the security guard.
