Stillman College wins $2.7 million cybersecurity grant

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – A multi-million dollar grant will help Stillman College strengthen its cybersecurity efforts far beyond its campus.

Stillman College got a $2.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, according to Congresswoman Terri Sewell. The money will go to Stillman College’s Information Technology Training and Development Center. The center will strive to meet the cybersecurity needs of local employers.

It should also create 100 jobs in this field and generate approximately one million dollars of private investment.

Dr. Derrick Gilmore of Stillman College says the training center will be built at Geneva Hall on the Stillman College campus.

“At the end of this grant period and through the completion of this work, we will be hiring over a hundred people to support the maintenance of these jobs and also the creation of new jobs in data and information sciences. information, as well as in cybersecurity,” Gilmore told WBRC.

Stillman College President Cynthia Warrick added in a statement that the cybersecurity center will help the school recruit and retain students by providing employment opportunities in in-demand fields.
