Thieves Steal High-End Vehicles From Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant Lot

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Car thieves are stealing new vehicles outside the factories where they were made, and one automaker appears to be particularly hard hit.

In some cases, thieves target high-end models that sell for up to $100,000, and remarkably, this happens in places where security matters.

“We need security at gate one for four trucks that have just been stolen,” security said.

There was another broken door at the Stellantide Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, and many more brand-new premium products dodge ram pickup trucks have been hunted, including a Ram TRX model that can cost upwards of $100,000.

“Two charcoal grays, one bright blue, one silver TRX,” security said through the radio scanner.

“They are crazy criminals,” said Fawwaz Habeeb. “It is unjustified. Crazy. I have never seen anything like it.

Habeeb works across from the broken door and asks how people can walk onto secure car factory grounds and walk away with the more expensive models, like the TRX.

The same thing happened a week ago at the same place.

“TRX last time,” Habeeb said. “I saw one hit a tractor-trailer.”

He talks about this photo posted on the Metro Detroit News Instagram page.

Sources tell Local 4 News that five Ram trucks were stolen from land in Shelby Township. On March 3, Hellcat widebody loaders were stolen from a field in Auburn Hills. On Feb. 28, the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit was hit again, this time for a $90,000 Jeep Trackhawk and Hellcat Challenger.

Using Drone 4, Shawn Ley was able to show how secure fencing wraps around the lots because security is on every lot – mostly at every gate.

“To be honest with you, I see a security guard every day when I drive by,” Habeeb said.

In a press release, Stellantis states: “Stellantis is working with the Sterling Heights Police Department regarding the theft of multiple vehicles early Tuesday morning from a shipyard that serves the third-party-run Sterling Heights assembly plant. As this is an open investigation, the company does not comment further on which vehicles were stolen or how they were stolen.

Sterling Heights police said they will have additional patrols outside the Stellantis gate as a Macomb County Auto Theft Task Force is also investigating.
