Kehlani was so impressed with a security guard’s singing backstage at this weekend’s Dreamville festival that she brought him in to perform during her set.
Kicking off yesterday (April 2), the second annual J. Cole Festival is currently taking place at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, NC. The two-day event ends later tonight (April 3).
Lineup artists include Lil Baby, Wale, T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa, Rico Nasty, Ari Lennox, Earthgang, Ja Rule and Ashanti, Lil Wayne, Jeezy, TI, Morray, as well as festival founder J. Cole.
Kehlani performed as part of Saturday’s lineup, and her set included a performance by a security guard who she first heard singing backstage moments before taking the stage.
“This man used to sing his ass next to me [sic] the show has begun,” she captioned a video of her performance on her Instagram Stories. “I had to test his gangsya [sic] and bring him out, he was amazing!!!!!”

“I hate the club”
This weekend is the first Dreamville festival since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. J. Cole first announced the festival in 2018, but its inaugural edition didn’t take place until April 2019 after the previous year’s event was canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
J. Cole is among the names to perform at this year’s Wireless Festival, which will see the festival spanning three venues – Crystal Palace Park and Finsbury Park in London, as well as the NEC in Birmingham – over two consecutive weekends ( July 1-3 and July 8-10).
Headliners for the Crystal Palace leg will be A$AP Rocky (UK exclusive), J. Cole (UK exclusive) and Tyler, The Creator (London festival exclusive).
Finsbury Park will feature standout performances from Cardi B (UK Exclusive), Nicki Minaj (EU Exclusive) and SZA, who will present their first ever UK festival headline show. This last artist is also listed as a European exclusive.
The following weekend, Birmingham is set to welcome Dave, Cardi B and J. Cole as the headliners of a brand new purpose-built outdoor venue at the site of the city’s National Exhibition Center (NEC).
Meanwhile, Kehlani and Justin Bieber have shared their brand new collab “Up At Night.”
The track is taken from Kehlani’s upcoming new album “Blue Water Road”, which is slated for release on April 29.
